High durability vegetable tanned leather clog

for true material nerds, these are my vision of the ideal leather clog, a timeless shape, inspired by classic materials and construction and the durability of the simplest design possible.

**veg-tan leather is leather that has been tanned (processed) using natural tannins, this technique gives the leather unique properties. Highly formable, so it shapes to your foot over time, ages beautifully and develops a unique patina through sun exposure, water exposure and wear. It can last much longer than chrome tanned leathers if well maintained since it's structure isn't as damaged through the much lengthier and more delicate tanning process. look it up, it's wonderful stuff.

Built off a modified munson last, see history here : https://www.stitchdown.com/info/munson-last-origins/

upper is a single layer of 2.5-3mm brazilian cowhide, vegetable tanned using Quebracho or Acacia (single layer construction offers superb breathability, comfort and allows the leather to conform to your foot much better than a laminate construction, also, no stitching means no seams to come undone)

the soles are made up of two layers:

one layer of the brazilian leather

and one layer of 7mm j.rendenbach oak-bark tanned sole leather (this leather is a staple in vegetable tanned sole materials, treated with oak bark tannins, then buried underground for up to six months for the leather to be transformed)

sandwiched in between these two layers, I glue up a hand hammered stainless steel shank (for structure)

The shoes is assembled with glue, but held together with wooden pegs (hand cut by me), the wooden pegs secure the upper to the sole, and move with the leather a little more than brass tacks would, I like to think the wood is a more bio-compatible material, and that it swells with the leather when wet to create a more waterproof sole

I use a 20mm vibram rubber heel, held in place with glue and metal nails for durability.

The shoe is sold as-is with the front of the sole unprotected, you can chose to wear it with the leather sole only (like a dress shoe) if worn inside or as a garden clog, but if you live in town, and are going to put them through more serious use on abrasive surfaces, i recommend you ask your local cobbler to install a rubber sole at the front of the shoe, you can chose between a lugged or slick sole depending on your use.

**** FIT AND SIZE CHOICE:

the fit is quite voluminous, and offers a good amount of toe splay. I recommend clients purchase an insole to acommodate their foot volume and arch if necessary. shoe is sold without insoles, since they should be a little thigh when they're new to allow the leather to shape to your foot.

attached under this paragraph is a print-out size guide from the last supplier ( note that I square off the toe by adding volume, if worried about room for your toes)

when ordering please note what last size from the print out guide (8,9,10 etc) fits you best as well as the euro size(41,42,43,etc) you usualy wear, I will be able to direct you to the best sizing.

If I don't offer your size, please specify in order notes, we can discuss a custom sizing.
